About Jharkhand Rajya Fasal Rahat Yojana

The Department of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry & Cooperative, Government of Jharkhand, brought in the “Jharkhand Rajya Fasal Rahat Yojana” chiefly to support farmers financially when natural calamities or natural accidents damage their crops. Rather than being a crop insurance scheme, it compensates farmers for crop damage. In doing so it gives farmers a safety net and a measure of financial assistance when natural calamities destroy crops. Both landowners and landless farmers are covered. Farmers pay no crop insurance premium at all, and the government pays them assistance directly if their crops are lost. Objective:

  • Helping farmers financially when unexpected natural calamities or events damage their crops.
  • Shoring up farmers’ income so they can keep farming.
  • Keeping funds flowing for agricultural work.
  • Opening the way to food security, crop diversification, rapid growth and competitiveness in agriculture.

The following types of natural calamities, which may affect the crop, will be included in this scheme:

  • Flood and Water Logging
  • Earthquake
  • Volcanic Eruption
  • Landslide
  • Drought or dry winds (where the State Government has not declared drought)
  • Widespread Epidemic
  • Fire Caught Naturally
  • Thunderstorm
  • Storm
  • Torrential Rain
  • Cyclone

The following risks will not be considered under the scheme:

  • Damage resulting from war/nuclear risks,
  • Deliberate damage and other avoidable risks, for instance unscientific farming methods used by farmers etc.
  • Crop damage from wild animal attacks (such damage is covered instead by schemes of the Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department, Government of Jharkhand).
