Industrial R&D Promotion Programme: Recognition Of In-House R&D Units

Quick Summary: DSIR's Recognition of In-House R&D Units scheme certifies corporate R&D units and biotech start-ups meeting infrastructure, staffing, and documentation standards, unlocking access to Government of India fiscal incentives and R&D funding from agencies like DST, DBT, and CSIR. Companies must be at least three years old with dedicated R&D infrastructure and qualified staff.

About Industrial R&D Promotion Programme: Recognition Of In-House R&D Units

The Department of Scientific & Industrial Research (DSIR) runs “Recognition of In-House R&D Units” to grant recognition and registration to in-house R&D units set up by corporate industry. These units are expected to pursue innovative research and development tied to the firm’s line of business — developing new technologies, design and engineering, improving processes/products/designs, devising new analysis/testing methods, boosting efficiency in using capital equipment, materials, and energy, pollution control, effluent treatment, waste recycling, or other research areas. This is the only government-wide scheme for benchmarking industrial R&D. DSIR is the nodal department granting recognition to in-house R&D units at corporate companies and Scientific and Industrial Research Organizations (SIROs), and registration to publicly funded research institutions like universities, IITs, IISc, and Regional Engineering Colleges (RECs), excluding hospitals.
