Good Samaritan Scheme
About Good Samaritan Scheme
The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways launched the “Scheme for Good Samaritan” on 3 October 2021, rewarding anyone who saves the life of a fatal motor-vehicle accident victim by giving immediate assistance and rushing them to a Hospital/Trauma Care Centre within the accident’s Golden Hour for treatment. Each Good Samaritan award is ₹25,000 per incident, and the scheme runs through the 15th Financial Cycle, i.e., until 31 March 2026. The scheme aims to encourage the public to help road-accident victims in emergencies and inspire others to save lives. A Good Samaritan who reports an accident to police, or takes a victim to hospital, faces no further requirements from police or hospital staff and may leave immediately.
