Dalit Bandhu
About Dalit Bandhu
Launched by the government of Telangana, the Dalit Bandhu Scheme is a distinctive programme designed to drive the economic progress of households from the Scheduled Caste (SC) community. Each eligible SC family receives financial support of Rs. 10 lakhs so it can set up its own business or entrepreneurial venture, opening a route towards self-reliance and a better standard of living.
Because bank credit in the form of loans has become a bottleneck, the state has adopted a fresh strategy alongside existing entitlements such as food security, education and social security. Under this multi-pronged approach, the new “Telangana Dalit Bandhu” initiative steps up the scale of financial help given to SC households so they can establish suitable income-generating economic support schemes.
Every eligible family gets Rs. 10 lakhs as a grant to launch a small business or entrepreneurial venture, and more than 20 lakh families across the state are expected to benefit over the next few years. This one-time capital assistance of Rs.10 lakhs per SC family is extended to all SC families as a 100% grant/subsidy, allowing them to set up income-generating schemes of their own choosing with no bank loan linkage.
At its core, the scheme seeks to cut poverty and nurture entrepreneurship within the SC community, a group that has long been pushed to the margins and subjected to discrimination. It is also intended to advance inclusive growth and social development across the state.
For the first year of implementation, the Telangana government has earmarked Rs. 1,000 crores. Rollout is planned in phases, with beneficiary families identified and chosen using criteria such as income level, educational qualification and entrepreneurial skills.
In short, the Dalit Bandhu Scheme is a ground-breaking effort to raise the socio-economic standing of the SC community in Telangana. By giving a strong push to entrepreneurship and economic activity among marginalised groups, it supports inclusive growth and social development throughout the state.
