About Chief Minister’s Scheme For Wood Carving Artists

The “Chief Minister’s Scheme for Wood Carving Artists” was started to keep alive the rich tradition of woodwork and to spread it while refining its artistic quality so that it matches international standards. It aims to preserve and protect a valuable heritage of wood crafts that is otherwise being ignored and is fading away. Objective:

  • Strengthening and developing traditional wood carving artisans and connecting them to organised markets.
  • Building entrepreneurs and traders in the wood business.

Important Features:

  • Traditionally skilled wood carvers from 6 promising districts of Arunachal Pradesh will receive master-trainer training at NID, Ahmedabad, NIFT, and Kolkata in the latest wood carving technology for product development, finishing and linking products with the right markets.
  • These trained Master Craftsmen will then train up-and-coming local artisans in wood carving skills in the targeted districts that have a strong wood carving tradition.
