About Biju Patnaik Sports Award for Best Contribution to promotion of Sports and Games
Among the categories of the “Biju Patnaik Sports Award” Scheme is the “Biju Patnaik Sports Award for Best Contribution to Promotion of Sports and Games”. The Sports & Youth Services Department, Government of Odisha introduced the scheme as a tribute to the yeoman service rendered by late Biju Patnaik, former Chief Minister of Odisha, for the growth of Sports & Games in the State, and it confers in his name the Government of Odisha’s highest sporting honour. This particular category recognises individuals whose substantial contribution has come through roles such as Sports Administration and sports Support Staff (other than Coaches), as well as organisations that have made a substantial contribution by recruiting sportspersons, giving financial backing to sportspersons for advanced coaching & International participation, and sponsoring the organisation of National and international sporting events. > Objective:
1. To foster the growth of Sports and Games across the State. 1. To recognise meritorious sportspersons whose achievements have made the State Proud. 1. To motivate and inspire young talent to excel in sports and games by following the example of their seniors.
Sports Discipline: Covered disciplines are those recognised by the International Olympic Committee (I.O.C.), Indian Olympic Association (I.O.A.), Government of India (G.O.I.), Sports Authority of India (S.A.I.) and Government of Odisha (G.O.O.), with Sports Events for Persons with Disability also included.

The organisation should have contributed substantially by recruiting sportspersons, financially supporting sportspersons for advanced coaching & International participation, and sponsoring the organisation of National and international sporting events.
Annulment Cancellation of Award:
If the Award is discovered to have been secured by fraudulent means, it may be cancelled.
The person concerned will then be required to return the award; if he/she fails to do so, the cost involved will be recovered from him/her along with simple interest @ 5% per annum.

Step 04: Completed forms may be forwarded to the Sports & Youth Services Department by the Collector, SP, DSO, NYKS, the concerned Sports Association, the individual himself/herself or the Odisha Council of Sports.
Note 01: The Department of Sports and Youth Services also retains the right to nominate names for the award Suo moto.
Note 02: The applicant must self-attest the application form and every supporting document; attestation by a Gazette officer is not needed.
Scrutiny of Application:
A five-member scrutiny Committee of senior officials and coaches of the Department will be formed by the Secretary, Sports and Youth Services Department, headed by the Director-cum-Addl. Secretary, Sports and Youth Services Department or the Department's senior most officer; it will examine every application and present its findings to the selection committee.
Selection Procedure:
The Govt. will set up an eight-member Selection Committee chaired by the Secretary, Sports and Youth Services Department to choose the awardees.
After reviewing the scrutinised nominations/ applications, the Selection Committee will recommend names for each award, to be approved by the Government at the level of Hon'ble Minister, Sports & Youth Services
Timeline for the Award:

Final date for receiving applications: By 31st March
Scrutiny and Selection: By 31st May
Award Ceremony: 29th August (National Sports Day)
