About Award For Meritorious Students Of Meghalaya In The HSSLC Examination (Science Stream)

Run by the State Education Department, the Award for Meritorious Students of Meghalaya (HSSLC Science Stream) recognises tribal students who top their districts. It aims to nurture a scientific temper and healthy competition and to build a love for Mathematics and Science early on. By showing how useful these subjects are in daily life, the government hopes to inspire the state’s next generation of innovators.

Methodology:

1. Awards are based on students’ merit in the current HSSLC Examination (Science Stream), largely from schools/colleges across the state’s districts. 1. This one-time award is only for tribal students of Meghalaya, i.e. those holding a Meghalaya Schedule tribe certificate. 1. Awardees are chosen district – wise: 20 (twenty) from East Khasi Hills district and 6 (six) from each of the other 10 (ten) districts. 1. Once the current HSSLC Examination (Science) results are declared, the Controller of Examinations MBOSE Tura provides the awardee list. 1. DERT asks the Principals of the schools/colleges concerned to tell the students to send the required documents to DERT, Shillong. 1. DERT, Shillong screens all the documents without delay. 1. After screening the students’ documents, DERT makes the final selection of awardees. 1. If no student in a district qualifies, the award passes to the highest-ranked students on the waiting list. 1. Once every awardee’s documents are verified, ₹10,000/- (Rupees Ten Thousand) only per awardee is paid by NEFT into their account, and the certificate is posted to their home address
