About Atal Pension Yojana
Atal Pension Yojana (APY) is an old-age income security scheme open to savings account holders aged 18-40 who don’t pay income tax. It’s designed to reduce longevity risk for unorganised-sector workers and encourage them to save voluntarily for retirement.
Focus of APY
The scheme mainly targets poor and under-privileged workers in the unorganised sector.

Charges, Fees, and Overdue Interest under APY
Subscribers are charged fees and overdue interest for missed or delayed contributions. PFRDA sets these charges and how they apply, in consultation with the Central Government, and can revise them over time.
Raising a Grievance Under APY
Subscribers can lodge a grievance anytime, free of cost, at www.npscra.nsdl.co.in — go to Home >> select NPS-Lite, or use CGMS. Each grievance gets a token number, and subscribers can check its status under “Check the status of Grievance/Enquiry already registered.”

Option 1:
The spouse can choose to continue contributing to the subscriber's APY account (which can then be held in the spouse's name) for the remaining period until the original subscriber would have turned 60. The spouse then receives the same pension for life — and this stays separate even if the spouse already holds their own APY account and pension.
Option 2:
Alternatively, the entire pension corpus accumulated so far is returned to the spouse/nominee.
