Advanced Vocational Training Scheme
About Advanced Vocational Training Scheme
The Directorate General of Training (DGT), under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, runs the Advanced Vocational Training Scheme (AVTS) to keep the industrial workforce’s skills current through short, modular training. Courses running 1 to 6 weeks are aimed at industrial workers, technicians, supervisors, engineers, instructors, and technical students looking to upgrade their skills. National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) under DGT deliver the training — at Mumbai, Kanpur, Howrah, Hyderabad (Vidyanagar), Chennai, Hyderabad (Ramanthapur), Ludhiana, Dehradun, Calicut, Bangalore, Jamshedpur, and other centres — through both regular and custom courses built around what industries and establishments actually need. Each institute is equipped with workshops, labs, hostels, and other facilities to support the training. Originally set up in partnership with UNDP/ILO, the scheme delivers modular courses that respond to the training needs of industries and institutions.
Mission:
- Continuously upgrade the industrial workforce’s skills to boost productivity.
- Bridge the gap between academic training and industry needs so young people find suitable placements in technical fields.
Objective:
- Keep industries supplied with a steady stream of skilled workers across trades.
- Lift both the quality and quantity of industrial output through systematic worker training.
- Improve educated youth’s employability for skilled and supervisory roles.
- Keep technical staff at industries, government departments, and organisations current on evolving technology and diversifying production needs.
- Run need-based, tailor-made training programmes for industries, departments, and organisations.
- Offer consultancy on training and production techniques.
