Feed The Seed

Telangana
Quick Summary: Telangana's Feed for Seed program gives livestock farmers fodder and grass seeds such as PC-23, SSG, lucerne and African Tall at a 75% subsidy, and promotes farmer-led seed production.

About Feed The Seed

Launched by the Government of Telangana in India, the “Feed for Seed” program sets out to advance agriculture and back the state’s farmers. It motivates farmers to grow their own seeds by handing them free, high-quality seeds of a range of crops.

Farmers under the program get a seed kit holding seeds of several crops, among them vegetables, pulses, cereals, and oilseeds. Along with the seeds, the kit carries directions for growing and harvesting the crops and guidance on producing and storing seed.

The program rests on the “Seed Village” idea, in which farmers produce high-quality seeds and market them. It promotes sustainable farming methods like crop rotation, organic farming, and preserving traditional crop varieties.

Feed for Seed seeks to make high-quality seeds more widely available at affordable prices, encourage sustainable agriculture, and help farmers become self-reliant in producing seed. The program has earned wide praise and has enabled many farmers in Telangana to raise their income and better their livelihoods.
