About Competition of Zomnivoilo Khell
The Tiatr Academy, working under the Art, Culture and Museums Department, Government of Goa, started the “Competition of Zomnivoilo Khell” to keep alive Goa’s traditional folk theatre known as ‘The Khell’ (also called ‘Fell’ or ‘Zomnivoilo Khell’). Yearly competitions are held in various parts of Goa so that this heritage is handed down to future generations. Participating troupes receive financial help with production costs, and the structured competition gives traditional Khell performances a stage. To take part, an institution or individual must have staged a Khell in the current carnival season and must follow the traditional format, including 8 to 10 cantos within set time limits. The Tiatr Academy of Goa implements the scheme, and applications are made offline using the prescribed forms.
