Breed Multiplication Farm Entrepreneurship
About Breed Multiplication Farm Entrepreneurship
Interested entrepreneurs are proposed to receive a 50% capital subsidy (capped at Rs. 2.00 Crore) towards building cattle sheds, buying equipment, procuring elite bull mothers and similar costs. With this support, the entrepreneur sets up a breed multiplication farm (BMF) that produces elite heifers through sexed semen or IVF technology. Heifers raised at the BMF that are disease-free (at a minimum free of TB, JD & Brucella) will be sold to interested farmers, while HGM bulls born at the BMF will be bought by semen stations for semen production, provided they meet the Minimum Standards for frozen semen production. The BMF will also serve as a training centre for farmers and entrepreneurs. At present the country lacks any system for producing disease-free elite animals of indigenous cattle and buffalo breeds or exotic cattle breeds. Breed multiplication farms are therefore proposed under an entrepreneurship model so that disease-free, high-yielding heifers/pregnant heifers /cows, preferably of indigenous cattle/buffalo breeds, become available in the country.
