Beej Swalamban Yojna
About Beej Swalamban Yojna
Through the Mukhyamantri Beej Swavalamban Yojana, the Agriculture Department aims chiefly to give small and marginal general farmers of the state a subsidy of up to 50% on seeds. Farmers below the poverty line are also meant to receive mini kits free of cost. The idea is that farmers grow seed in their own fields and so move towards prosperity and self-reliance, being motivated to raise seed for use on their own farms. With this support, farmers can grow good crops at a lower cost, which in turn improves their financial position. Funded by the state, the scheme began as a pilot project in the Kota, Bhilwara, and Udaipur agriculture blocks. Since its expansion in the year 2018-19, it has been in operation across every block of the state.
Key components of the plan:-
1. Selection of crop:– Seed production is taken up for notified varieties, not older than 10 years, of jowar, soyabean, groundnut, moong, moth and urad in the Kharif season, and of wheat, barley and gram in the Rabi season. 1. Formation of farmers group:- Progressive farmers keen on growing a specific crop are chosen to make up a group. Every group has 30 to 50 farmers, who together usually sow 50 to 100 hectares of that crop. 1. Selection of seed producer members in the group:– Depending on need, the group itself picks 2-4 of its farmers as seed producers. The remaining members are farmers who will sow the seed so produced in the following year. 1. Free seed distribution:- Seed-producing farmers in every group are supplied the required base/certified seeds (Stage-I) at no cost. 1. Training and Rogging for seed production:– For one-day group training, spending of Rs.30/- per farmer, up to Rs.1500/- per training, is allowed. Three such one-day sessions are held so that group members fully understand the seed production process. Rogging payments to farmers (Rs.1000/- /Hect.) are credited to the concerned seed producer’s account through DBT/RTGS.
