About Aapki Beti Hamari Beti

On 24th August 2015, the Department of Women and Child Development, Government of Haryana, rolled out the “Aapki Beti Hamari Beti” scheme. Under it, the State Government places ₹21000/- with Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) in the name of the 1st Girl child born to SC/BPL families, and in the name of the 2nd child in families of any other caste. The girl receives this amount once she turns 18 years of age. The government introduced the scheme on the belief that every girl child deserves to be born and to be educated so she can realise her potential. The scheme guidelines take effect w.e.f. 22nd January 2015. Objectives:

  • To shift the way society views the birth of a girl child.
  • To raise the child-sex ratio across the state.
  • To boost school enrolment and retention of girls and help them take up income-generating activities.
  • To push up the age at which girls marry.
  • To secure the survival and good health of girls and encourage their education throughout the state.

Coverage: The scheme covers rural as well as urban areas of the state. It includes the 1st girl child born to Schedule Caste families and to all Below Poverty Line (BPL) families, and 2nd/twin/multiple girls born on or after 22nd January 2015 in any family in the State of Haryana that meets the eligibility conditions. The LADLI scheme has been folded into the “Aapki Beti Hamari Beti Scheme”, and 2nd /twin/multiple girls born on or before 2Ist January 2015 in any family in the State of Haryana who meet the Scheme’s eligibility conditions will receive benefits under the rules of the former LADLI Scheme. Monitoring of the Scheme: The Women and Child Development Department, Haryana, will monitor the scheme, supported by 3rd Party audit as the State Government may decide from time to time.
