About Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme for the Wards/Widows of Central Police Force Personnel

Introduced by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, in the Academic year 2006-07, the “Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme for the Wards/Widows of Central Police Force Personnel” promotes higher technical and professional education for the wards, widows, and families of ex-CPF personnel. Service conditions for Central Police Forces (CPFs) Personnel are exacting, tough, rigorous, and unique to the Services, often keeping personnel away from family for long spells — a situation that can lead to family matters, including children’s education, being neglected. The Prime Minister announced 5000 scholarships for the wards of ex-servicemen/widows of army personnel and para-military forces, including the Railway Protection Force, to pursue advanced education in Medical, Engineering/IT and other technical subjects, funded from interest income generated by the National Defence Fund. Of these 5000 scholarships, 1000 have been allocated to the Ministry of Home Affairs and Railways — split, based on force strength, into 910 scholarships for CPFs controlled by MHA and 90 for the Railway Protection Force controlled by the Ministry of Railways.
