About PM POSHAN – Prime Minister’s Overarching Scheme For Holistic Nourishment

PM POSHAN is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme run by the Department of School Education & Literacy under the Ministry of Education, through which children enrolled in Government and Government-aided schools receive one hot cooked meal each day. The Scheme covers every eligible child nationwide, with no distinction made on the basis of gender or social category. > Objective:

The PM POSHAN Abhiyaan chiefly targets two challenges facing most of India’s children — hunger and schooling — by lifting the nutritional levels of eligible children in Government and Government-aided institutions and by motivating poor children from disadvantaged backgrounds to attend school more consistently and stay focused during lessons.

The POSHAN Abhiyaan is one among several components housed under the umbrella “Integrated Child Development Services Scheme (ICDS)”, which also encompasses the Anganwadi Services Scheme, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, and the Scheme for Adolescent Girls.
