Applicants can apply for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) And Research Associateship (RA) For Foreign Nationals through the online application process outlined below.
Application Process
PROCEDURE FOR APPLYING FOR THE SCHEME:
Applications are invited via circulation to Indian embassies/missions abroad, which screen eligible candidates locally before forwarding applications to the UGC. Foreign students from Asia, Africa, and Latin America already studying in India who hold a master's or doctoral degree and want to pursue research can apply through the university they intend to work with, with their application endorsed by their respective embassy for the Commission's consideration.
PROCEDURE FOR APPROVAL BY THE UGC
Applications received go before a shortlisting/screening committee, and shortlisted proposals then go before a selection committee to finalize JRF and RA awards. The Commission's decision is final and binding. UGC sends provisional selection intimation to candidates, though this doesn't confer the award — the formal award letter follows only after political clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of External Affairs. The Commission also reserves the right to withdraw/cancel the award without giving a reason.
