Integrated Scheme for Export Promotion & Quality Improvement in Spices and Research and Development of Cardamom: New Subcomponents: Basic quality testing of spices
About Integrated Scheme for Export Promotion & Quality Improvement in Spices and Research and Development of Cardamom: New Subcomponents: Basic quality testing of spices
The Basic Quality Testing of Spices subcomponent sits within the Integrated Scheme for Export Promotion & Quality Improvement in Spices and Research and Development of Cardamom, run by the Spices Board, India, under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. Consultations with R&D institutes, State Agricultural Universities (SAUs), and entrepreneurs revealed that devices for quick basic quality testing — like moisture content meters and curcumin content testers for turmeric — already exist and are used by some groups and institutions. Making such devices available at the field level helps farmers judge their spice produce’s basic quality before selling it, negotiate prices with more confidence, and get fairly rewarded for maintaining product quality. The scheme follows the modalities and guidelines cleared by the Competent Authority under the Integrated Scheme for Export Promotion & Quality Improvement in Spices and Research and Development of Cardamom during the 15th Finance Commission period (2021–22 to 2025–26).
