Indian Agricultural Research Institute – Scholarship
About Indian Agricultural Research Institute – Scholarship
The Institute’s Dean and Joint Director (Education) award these scholarships, guided by the “Standing Committee on Scholarships Financial Assistance and Academic Progress,” which weighs each applicant’s merit — first at admission, then on their performance at the Post Graduate School.
Duration
1. Junior scholarships for M.Sc. normally run two years, and senior scholarships for Ph.D. run three years. On the recommendation of the student’s Chairperson and Division Professor, based on progress review and justification, these can be extended in exceptional cases by up to three months (junior)/six months (senior); SC/ST/PC students can get extensions up to six months/one year respectively. 1. Students who completed introductory agriculture courses in their first IARI year get an additional one year of Institute scholarship beyond the above provisions. 1. Scholarships are initially awarded for one academic year from joining the Post Graduate School (or the academic year’s start, whichever is later), renewable for another year for M.Sc. students and two more years for Ph.D. students, subject to maintaining the required Overall Grade Point Average. 1. The Dean reviews extension requests beyond these limits on their merits. The total scholarship period, including extensions, cannot exceed three years three months for M.Sc. students and four years six months for Ph.D. students. 1. Scholarship/fellowship payment is reviewed at the end of the 3rd trimester; only students maintaining an OGPA of 6.50/10.00 at that point may continue receiving it. All M.Sc./Ph.D. students must maintain a minimum OGPA of 6.00/10.00 at the end of the 3rd trimester to remain on the Post Graduate School rolls. 1. The scholarship is paid only for the period the recipient resides at the Post Graduate School (including summer vacation, trimester breaks, and sanctioned leave) up to the final viva-voce date (i.e., while on the rolls), provided the prescribed maximum period isn’t exceeded and the student continues residing in the Post Graduate Hostel and marking attendance in their division.

Benefits
The M.Sc. and Ph.D. scholarships pay ₹7,560/- and ₹10,500/- per month respectively, continuing through any granted extension period. This covers all teaching-institution fees and other charges. Besides the monthly amount, a contingent grant of ₹6,000/- per academic year (M.Sc.) or ₹10,000/- per academic year (Ph.D.) covers experimental material, books, thesis costs, and study tours, as recommended by the concerned Chairperson/Professor.
Scholarship to In-service Candidates/Departmental Students
Per ICAR norms, in-service candidates on study leave/deputation who already receive study/halting/deputation allowance plus full leave salary have their scholarship adjusted so the total added benefit caps at ₹3,000/month, on top of full leave salary and the contingent grant. In-service candidates not receiving JRF/SRF, and drawing only partial salary (half pay or leave without pay), can also get a ₹3,000/month Institute Scholarship, provided they are employed under the ICAR/SAU system (nominated by ICAR or selected by a university), join a location other than their current workplace, and are not pursuing their third degree from the same institute.
