Collaborative Research Scheme (CRS)

Quick Summary: The Collaborative Research Scheme gives TEQIP institute faculty groups - a Principal Investigator plus 2-4 Co-Investigators - up to Rs 25 lakh in one-year research grants to collaborate across institutions and industry. Funds release in two stages, with 60% going to non-recurring costs and 40% to recurring costs.

About Collaborative Research Scheme (CRS)

The All India Council for Technical Education runs the Collaborative Research Scheme (CRS) to hand out research grants to young faculty recruited under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) at various TEQIP institutes, encouraging them to collaborate on research and grow a research community.

Duration of the Project:

  • Each project runs for one year from when funds land in the institute’s account.

Processing Methodology: An expert committee assesses every proposal, formed as follows:

  • Three expert members, none below Associate Professor rank; a fourth steps in if any of the three is unavailable.
  • At least two of these experts must come from the relevant stream.

Terms and conditions:

  • The Principal Investigator carries primary responsibility for executing the project.
  • Should the Principal Investigator leave the institution without transferring the project, or go on extended leave, Co-Principal Investigator 1 may continue it, subject to the Principal Investigator’s consent and AICTE’s approval – such requests must reach AICTE in advance, which is why having a Co-Principal Investigator-1 (Co-PI-1), per ref. 1.2(d), is mandatory.
  • If the Principal Investigator leaves and no other Co-Investigator remains to run the project, it gets terminated at that point, with the PI and Co-PI-1 (from the Host Institute) filing a Utilization Certificate – no further grant follows.
  • The grant must go strictly toward what the sanction letter specifies; shifting funds between heads isn’t allowed. Recurring and Non-Recurring heads take 40% and 60% of the total grant respectively, unless TEQIP experts recommend otherwise, and the equipment list the experts finalise cannot be changed afterward.
  • Once a project is sanctioned, the Council won’t entertain requests for extra funding.
  • No separate institutional overheads are provided for running the project.
  • None of the project grant may fund travel abroad for conferences/seminars; however, travel costs for presenting a paper at a domestic Seminar/Conference can come from the grant’s recurring component.
