AICTE-QUALITY IMPROVEMENT (FOREIGN UNIVERSITY) PROGRAMME
About AICTE-QUALITY IMPROVEMENT (FOREIGN UNIVERSITY) PROGRAMME
At its 55th Council meeting on 14 August 2018, AICTE approved the Quality Improvement Programme (Foreign University), or QIP(FU), extending the original QIP programme that the Government of India had launched back in 1970.
Under QIP(FU), AICTE grants scholarships to eligible faculty members who secure admission to a Doctoral programme leading to a PhD at any of the world’s top 500 universities or institutes, as ranked by the QS, Times, or Shanghai rankings.
Objectives: QIP(FU) sets out to:
1. Open up avenues for faculty pursuing a PhD at a foreign university or institution. 1. Close the sizeable gap of AICTE-approved faculty holding only postgraduate degrees who haven’t yet earned a PhD. 1. Reduce local competition among faculty. 1. Help Indian faculty become as competitive and globally recognised as their international counterparts. 1. Beyond strengthening India’s own research landscape, broaden opportunities in other developed countries —
- which have highly qualified faculty able to guide PhD scholars,
- more funding agencies available,
- universities with strong laboratories, libraries, and publication access for research, and
- employment opportunities that go beyond teaching.
